Ich konnte den zweiten Teil um Jude und Cardan nicht aus der Hand legen und habe ihn innerhalb eines Tages gelesen. Was ich in Teil 1 noch wirr und unausgereift fand, steigerte sich nun zu einer überraschenden und durchdachten Handlung. Ich habe mit Jude gelitten und sie angespornt und verflucht - ganz so, wie es für mich beim Lesen sein soll. Kann den nächsten Band kaum erwarten!

Leider bin ich hier etnäuscht worden. Das Buch kam beschädigt an(sehe bilder)Allerdings ist der Karton überhaupt nicht beschädigt, also war der bereits beim verschicken beschädigt.

Holly Black hat mit "The Wicked King" ein weiteres Juwel in ihrer Saga geschaffen. Wie schon in "The Cruel Prince" geschrieben, bin ich der festen Überzeugung das die Autorin mit dieser Reihe ihre bisherigen Werke bei weitem übertroffen hat. Umso glücklicher bin ich, dass "The Cruel Prince" kein Ausnahmewerk war, sondern, dass dieses Niveau beibehalten wurde. Soviel passiert in dem Buch, dass man als Leser gar nicht aufhören kann zu lesen, weil man ständig wissen will, wer nun wen hintergeht und was nun mit dem Reich von Elfhame passiert. Mittlerweile ist man mit der Welt von Elfhame vertraut, mit seinen Sitten/Gebräuchen, mit den Machtverhältnissen und seinen durchtriebenen Charakteren. Jede Figur scheint wichtig zu sein, und als Leser ist es durch die Facettenreichheit und die Individualität der Charaktere besonders wohltuend die Geschichte mitzuerleben. "The Wicked King" knüpft nahtlos an dem Ende von "The Cruel Prince" an, man begleitet wieder Jude Duarte durch die Welt von Elfhame. Einige Wendungen hält das Buch für den Leser bereit, besonders am Ende sind soviele Ereignisse ungeklärt und offen, dass man nicht warten kann bis der nächste Teil erscheint (was leider erst 2020 der Fall sein wird, zumindest in Englisch). Aus Spoilergründen, kann ich nicht sehr viel näher auf den Inhalt eingehen, wer aber den Cliffhanger vom ersten Buch schon zerschmetternd fand, der wird auch am Ende dieses Meisterwerks sein Herz in Splittern vorfinden. Die Welt von Elfhame hat es mir einfach angetan, sie ist grausam, wunderschön und berauschend zugleich, sodass man sich ihr nicht entziehen kann. Die Charaktere, die Gebräuche, die Geschichte, die Politik, einfach alles was Holly Black mit dieser Reihe erschaffen hat ist umwerfend. Für mich gehört "The Cruel Prince" und "The Wicked King" zu den besten Faerie Romanen die ich bis dato gelesen habe, wobei, nein, sie sind definitiv die besten die ich gelesen habe. Wer schon den ersten Teil umwerfend fand, der wird auch von "The Wicked King" begeistert sein. Diesmal wird vermehrt auf die Welt der Meerjungfrauen eingegangen, Orlagh und Nicasia spielen eine größere Rolle als wie schon zuvor, Balekin schmiedet seinen Rachefeldzug gegen die Krone und Jude und Cardan können nicht miteinander aber auch nicht ohne. Und vergessen wir nicht Madoc und Taryn die ihren ganz eigenen Plan verfolgen um sich der Krone mächtig zu werden. Den nächsten Teil "The Queen of Nothing" brauchte ich schon vorgestern.
The Wicked King is the best sequel I've picked up for a good long while. Actually, it still sits on top of my favorite reads of 2019 list almost halfway through the year and I'm so, so excited for the Queen of Nothing now, I can't wait. Super happy it got an earlier release date!
